JALPAIGURI, WEST BENGAL: Two policemen were injured and two of their vehicles were damaged when a mob allegedly pelted them with stones at a high school in Raninagar in West Bengal’s Jalpaiguri district, police said today.
The incident occurred last evening at Raninagar high school where some students and their guardians were holding a protest to demand from the government cycles for some of the girl, Superintendent of Police Akash Megharia said.
When the police approached the protest venue to disperse the crowd, a mob of local people – not comprising the students and their guardians – attacked the police with stones injuring two sub-inspectors and damaging as many police vehicles, he said.
The injured policemen were admitted to Jalpaiguri hospital, he said adding three locals were arrested.
