22 held during raids against illicit liquor

As many as 22 persons were arrested and huge quantity of illicit distilled liquor was seized during the massive Cordon & Search Operation drive conducted by Prohibition & Excise Department held in Dhoolpet area in the early hours of Wednesday.

Nearly 200 personnel of Excise Department participated in the exercise conducted under the leadership of Ujwala Reddy, Assistant Superintendent of Prohibition & Excise Department.

Nakabandi was organized and teams positioned at strategic locations viz., Bhoiguda Kaman, Muslimjung Bridge, Ghode Ki Khabar, Dattatreya Pahad and Jummerat Bazar. These teams conducted check of vehicles and people moving in and out of the area.

Five teams conducted searches in the areas of Upper Dhoolpet, Lower Dhoolpet, Mangar Basti, Karwan and Gudimalkapur. These teams conducted thorough search of all suspected places and persons involved in manufacture, transportation and sale of illicitly distilled liquor.

As many as 21 cases were registered and 22 persons were arrested. Five persons with criminal antecedents were amongst those arrested. They are Kapil Singh of Jiyaguda, Rajesh Singh of Takkerwadi, Vishal Singh of Gangabowli, Gidda Chandrapaul of Gangabowli and Shailender Singh of Jummerathbazar

Contraband of 105 litres, 3023 ID sachets and 3400 litres of FJ Wash was seized and destroyed.

Apart from Enforcement activity, the Prohibition & Excise Department is organizing awareness programmes including counseling of the people involved in manufacture, transportation and sale of ID liquor to dissuade them from this unlawful activity and to bring them into mainstream. (INN)
