2,700-km long pipeline to be laid for providing drinking water to all households

The Telangana State government,  in principle, has agreed to take up laying of 2,700-km long pipeline for providing drinking water to households in the jurisdiction of 12 municipalities.

GHMC commissioner B. Janardhan Reddy held a meeting with HMWS&SB MD Danakishore and discussed on the project. The contract for digging of roads would be given on conditions, he said. Drinking water would be provided to all the households under 12 Municipalities from the existing reservoir of Manjeera, Singur, Osman Sagar and Himayath Sagar and construction of 56 other reservoirs are being taken up to provide drinking water to all the citizens of the GHMC jurisdiction with the HUDCO loan of Rs. 1900 crores.

Keeping in view the importance of drinking water, the State government is planning to complete the project by by May 2017 and the GHMC accorded permission for digging of roads and also to restore the same before May 2017, said GHMC Commissioner. For taking up this project, the GHMC and HMWS&SB are planning to take up the pipeline works in coordination with the Traffic Police and other all line departments to complete the project in the stipulated time duly involving Executive agencies, Residential Welfare Associations, Public Representatives to take up the works and to be completed in a phased manner before the monsoon of 2017 to avoid problems. The GHMC Commissioner, along with HMWS&SB MD and other senior officials of the GHMC conducted a meeting today in GHMC Head Office.

The Commissioner said for proper coordination among the various departments, this type of meeting will be held at ZC and DC level involving Traffic Police and other line departments frequently to speed up the project works on priority with minimum discomfort to the people.

 HMWS&SB MD Dana Kishore said this is the first time that such a big project was being taken up by the HMWS&SB and the project has to be completed by 2018 but as per the directions of the Government, this project is being planned to be completed by May 2017. The HMWS&SB has prepared a book to know the works being taken up under this project for every 15 kilometers where length, connection to various households etc., can be known while the project is being taken up.

The MD, HMWS&SB said that regular meetings with traffic police officials and other line departments will be conducted involving all the Residential Welfare Associations and various Executive agencies to complete the project at any cost by May 2017.

Chief Engineers, K. Suresh, Subhash Singh, Superintendent Engineers, Executive Engineers, Zonal Commissioners and senior officials of HMWS&SB and GHMC have participated in the meeting.(NSS)
