3 arrested for robbing people by posing as policemen

New Delhi: Three persons have been arrested for allegedly robbing people by posing as policemen dressed in khakhi, the police said today.

The three accused — Bharat Bhushan Datta (36), Pankaj (27) and Ravi Datta (29) were arrested from near G T Karnal Road yesterday, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) G Ram Gopal Naik said.

The three accused had on July 15 intercepted a Honda City car on Noida Link Road flyover near Star City Mall in Mayur Vihar Phase I. Of its three occupants, one was forced to shift to another vehicle at gunpoint while the others were taken away from there, police said.

After some distance, all the three abducted persons were pushed out of their respective vehicles and the accused fled with the Honda City car containing silver ornaments weighing more than 40 kg, the officer said.

Acting on a tip-off, a trap was laid and the accused were arrested from near G T Karnal Road. A country-made pistol with two live rounds and some of the robbed items were seized from them, police said.

“The gang members used to wear khakhi uniforms and would follow their target in two separate cars. They would intercept the target vehicle on the pretext of checking documents,” Naik said.

“They would then forcibly enter the vehicle with firearms and abduct the occupants. After taking them to a remote place, the accused would pushed out the occupants of the car after robbing them of their belongings,” he said.
