Agartala: Less than 48 hours after 23 Bangladeshis were arrested for entering Tripura illegally, another 35 were arrested today by the Border Security Force (BSF) from two locations in Rashyabari area under Gandacherra sub-division in the state’s Dhalai district.
Among those arrested, are 25 women and three children.
“The 10th battalion of BSF arrested all in total 35 Bangladeshis from Rajbari and C K Bari. They were trying to sneak into Indian territory through unfenced forest area but the alert BSF troopers arrested them,” said Inspector General (IG) of Tripura Frontier J B Sangwan.
“12 persons were arrested at C K Bari and 23 at Rajbari. All of them are tribal people and it seemed they are resident of the bordering areas across and trying to cross for marketing and treatment purpose,” he added.
Later, the BSF handed over all the arrested Bangladeshis to the Raishyabari police. They would be produced before the court on Saturday.
On Wednesday, the BSF had arrested 23 Bangladeshi nationals for entering Indian territory without valid documents from the motor stand area in remote Gandachera town in Dhalai district.
The infiltrators entered into the Indian territory through Gandachera, which is mostly hilly and unfenced. Gandachera is around 170 km from capital Agartala and located opposite to Chittagong Hills Track in Bangladesh.
A local court sent them to eight-day imprisonment, while the children were sent to juvenile home. (ANI)
