4 die in house collapse in Nandurbar as rains lash North Maharashtra

Nashik: Four persons were killed on Monday and as many others injured in a house collapse due to heavy rains in Pachora Bari village in Nandurbar district of North Maharashtra, which recorded 390 mm rainfall in last 24 hours.

“Four persons died and four others were injured in the incident due to heavy rains lashing the region since Saturday. A total of 179 houses got damaged due to rains. Moreover, 100 cattle were washed away in a flash flood,” said Ranjit Rajput, Acting District Information Officer, Nandurbar.

He said in last 24 hours ended this morning, 390 mm rain was recorded in Nandurbar district.

In Nashik district, pounded by continuous downpour since last two days, a record 1,899 mm rainfall was recorded in last 24 hours ended at 8 AM on Monday.

Due to heavy spell, the water level in Gangapur dam, the main source of drinking water to Nashik, rose to 47 per cent besides a substantial increase in water levels in various other reservoirs.

“Water level in Gangapur dam stands at 47 per cent now while the water level in Darna dam (in the district) is 66 per cent. While 22,000 cusecs of water were released in Godavari river, 9175 cusecs of water from Darna dam since yesterday,” according to a release from Weather department here on Monday.

Gates of Palkhed left canal and of Godavari right and left canals were opened due to flood.

Godavari river, which runs through Nashik, is in a full spate and flood water has submerged many temples located on its banks.

In Igatpuri taluka in Nashik district, 20 people trapped in flood water at Tarangpada Pimpri hamlet were rescued on Monday, the release stated.

“Nashik taluka has so far recorded 61 per cent rainfall, followed by Baglan (54 per cent), Sinnar (51 per cent), Peth (25 per cent), Malegaon (22 percent),” it added.
