4 police personnel injured in clash over mining

Santkabirnagar: Four police personnel, including a station officer, were today injured when villagers attacked them with stones and lathis during a protest against licenced mining in the area.

The villagers from the Chapra village under Dhanghta police station area staged a protest against licenced mining here and disrupted the work after which the police rushed to remove the protesters, the police said.

The villagers, however, gathered and started pelting stones and also used lathis on the police personnel resulting in injuries to four policemen, police added.

Station Officer Sahabudeen and three other policemen has been admitted to a hospital.

Superintendent of Police Hiralal said the police and the PAC has been deployed in the village and situation is under control.

Efforts are on to arrest the culprits, he said.
