6.8 magnitude earthquake jolts Myanmar, tremors felt in north-east India

Kolkata: An earthquake of 6.8 magnitude on the Richter Scale hit Myanmar on Wednesday afternoon with tremors felt across Bengal, Bihar, Assam.

Tremors were also felt in Kolkata , officials said.

As per European Mediterranean Seismological Centre, the depth of the earthquake is stated to be 91 kilometres.

Colleges, offices were evacuated, people talked of “horrible shaking” and said the tremors lasted at least ten seconds.

The tremors in Patna lasted about 3 seconds, said NDTV’s reporter.
