Over 6 kg heroin seized in Punjab

Abohar/Ferozepur: More than six kg of heroin was seized by Border Security Force (BSF) and Punjab Police officials in three separate incidents in the state today.

In the first case, BSF and Special Task Force (STF) of Punjab Police recovered five packets of heroin (5 kg) during a search operation carried out in the area of responsibility of Border Out Post Dona Telu Mal, in Sector Ferozepur, a BSF official said.

The packets were found buried under a ‘berry’ tree.

The operation was carried out based on specific information provided by STF Ludhiana and Ferozepur of Punjab Police.

In Ludhiana, IGP STF Balkar Singh told media persons that two persons were arrested in this case.

The IGP said, “During the course of investigation, the accused disclosed that they have links with the Pakistan-based smugglers.”

A Pakistani mobile SIM card was also recovered from them, he said.

In another case, BSF personnel seized a packet of contraband (300 gm) in the area of responsibility of Border Out Post Shameke, Ferozepur Sector, it said.

In the third case, over one kg of heroin hidden in a tractor’s drawbar was seized by the BSF in Punjab’s border out post Jodhawala area in Abohar sector.

One person was apprehended in connection with the seizure, a BSF official said.

The tractor was found in the fields of Kala Singh, a resident of Jodhawala, Fazilka district. He was then apprehended by the BSF personnel.

With this seizure, a total of 90 kg of heroin has been seized this year.
