6 women held for theft of diamond, gold jewellery

New Delhi: Six women have been arrested and diamond and gold jewellery worth Rs 31 lakh were recovered from them, police said today.

The police, on specific input, apprehended Pooja,33, near Pul Bangash Metro station yesterday and later recovered a box containing five polki diamond jewellery sets worth Rs 25 lakh from the house of her relative at Punjabi Basti in Subzi Mandi area, said Jitendra Mani, DCP(Metro).

The theft of the diamond jewellery was reported by a jewellery commision agent from Bikaner(Rajasthan) Mange Lal Soni at Kashmere Gate Metro police station on May 23.

The police examined CCTV footage of several Metro stations and found a woman stealing the jewellery box and hiding it in her clothes. She was later identified as Pooja during further investigation, said the officer.

Police also arrested four women accused of stealing gold jewellery worth Rs six lakh from a Gurgaon resident Sunita Khanna on June 1.

Lalita, 25, Rakhi, 26, Surekha, 25, and Tulsa, 23, were apprehended from outisde Chandni Chowk Metro station, the officer said.

Sunita Khanna was exiting the AFC gate when her bag containing a mix of diamond and gold jewellery worth Rs 6 lakh was stolen by the accused.

The four accused were found involved in the theft with the help of CCTV footage, added the officer.
