The 6-year-old girl could not survive the rescue operation: Karnataka

Hubballi: Kaveri, the girl who was stuck in the abandoned borewell, was pulled out dead in the rescue operation. Despite rescue team providing her oxygen through a tube, She could not survive.

The rescue operation was carried out for fifty-four hours, and the rocks were the major hurdle coming in the way, while boring parallel to the borewell. The 6-year-old was playing along with her sister and brother, when she fell into the borewell in Junjarwad village of Belagavi district on Saturday evening, reported by Deccan Chronicle.

There were doubts of her surviving due to a foul smell from the well since Monday evening. The staff of National Disaster Relief Force from Pune, Hatti Gold Mines and the fire brigade worked round-the-clock in the rescue operation.

The family members of the girl have appealed to the government to ensure refilling of all defunct borewells and create awareness to prevent such mishaps.

A case will be filed against Shankrappa Hipparagi, the owner of the farm for his failure to refill the abandoned borewell. He fled the village after the tragedy occurred.

The child’s parents Ajit Madar and Savita are daily wagers who belong to the Dalit community. They both earn Rs150 per day to meet their family’s requirements.

Despite being poor, they always managed their children to get food and education. They live in a thatched hut with their children and work in a sugarcane field.

Kaveri was supposed to go to school in the government’s school next month. People of Junjarwad and surrounding villages had witnessed the rescue operation, while many of them offered prayers during the rescue operation.
