7-year-old killed hit by “suspicious explosive”, dies in TN

Krishnagiri (TN): A-seven-year-old boy died in a nearby village here after a sharp object hit the left side of his face and exploded, police said today.

The boy was seriously injured and fainted following the impact of the explosion last night. He was taken to a local hospital where he died early today, police said.

While the villagers of Pennangur in Denkanikottai Taluk here, where the boy died, expressed apprehension that the explosive may have been a “gelatin stick” from a nearby granite quarry, police said the matter was being probed.

“The nature of the object that exploded is being probed. We neither know what it is, nor understand how it exploded. It is also not clear how other boys who played along the victim were not injured. We are probing the matter,” a Denkanikottai police official told PTI.

A case of suspicious death has been registered, the official said adding, the body was sent to Dharmapuri Government Hospital for autopsy.

“We will be able to tell you something only on the receipt of the post mortem report,” he said.
