75 ml rain in one & a half hour causes havoc in Hyderabad

Heavy rain coupled with scary thunder and lightning, created fear among the residents of city on Friday morning. The cloud burst, accompanied by thunder and lighting caused havoc by felling walls, trees and brought down roofs across the city. An asbestos roof collapsed in Shaheen Nagar. Several low lying areas were inundated with rain water for hours.

Trees were uprooted and hoardings fell down in several parts of new city. Power supply was snapped right from the beginning of rain and was not resorted till Friday noon. According to Meteorological department a whopping 75 mm rain was recorded in one and a half hour downpour which is said to be the highest in a single spell in the last 10 years.

The rain began at 3:40 am and continued till 6:30 am. Railway track was damaged due to rain in a village of Nalgonda district. The strong gales have inflicted extensive damage to mango crops. A man died in Guntur as the hoarding fell on him. 20 goats died struck by lightening in Anantapur.

Back in Hyderabad, Many electronic items and household items were damaged as the water entered into low lying areas. A puncture shop opposite to Moghalpura Kaman was gutted after it caught fire due to short circuit. Power supply was disrupted in most parts of the city as the trees fell on the electric wires due to gusty winds.
