753 swine flu cases in Delhi

New Delhi: Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain on Thursday said 753 cases of swine flu (influenza H1N1) were reported between January 1 and August 6, adding that enough stocks of medicine were available to tackle the disease.

The Minister told the house that 365 dengue cases, 246 chikungunya cases and 356 malaria cases were also reported in Delhi.

“People should not panic. There is no dearth of medicines and vaccines for swine flu in Delhi. We have reserved 1,000 beds in 19 government hospitals for such patients,” Jain told the assembly while making a suo motu statement on swine flu and vector-borne diseases.

He advised people to avoid self-medication and to wash hands at regular intervals since the disease was contagious.

“We will also provide medicines for swine flu to private hospitals free of cost. We have allowed chemists to keep medicines but to sell these only on medical prescription,” Jain said.
