8 killed, 350 houses submerged with flood water in Mizoram

Aizwal: Heavy rainfall triggered flash floods in Lunglei District of Mizoram today have caused 8 deaths and displaced several people so far.

NH-54, which links the state with Assam, has been cut off at different places due to landslides in Lunglei, Siaha, Lawngtlai, Serchhip and Champhai districts, officials told.

State Urban Development and Poverty Alleviation Minister Zodintluanga told that as many as 350 houses have been submerged since yesterday in different parts of the state in the flash floods, NIE reports.

Manipur Chief Minister, N Biren Singh in a tweet requested urgent help:

Schools were closed in Thenzawl and six houses submerged in the area forcing the inhabitants to leave the buildings, the officials said.

Power supply lines were also broken and telecommunication system was disrupted in the state capital. Moreover, landslides and rains have blocked several roads in Aizawl town.
