Mumbai: Out of the 13 accused persons who were arrested in connection with 11th July 2006 serial train bomb blast case, Abdul Wahid Shaikh is the only accused who was freed by the Special Court for lack of evidence.
It may be noted that there were series of bomb blast cases in the local trains of Mumbai on 11th July 2006 which killed 188 persons and 829 were injured. Shaikh was charged with providing his house to the terrorist. Shaikh was working as a teacher at the Anjuman-i-Islam High School at Do Tanki, near CST. After his arrest he lost his job. During the period of his imprisonment he passed a course in Journalism and at present he is pursuing a law course.
His advocate Mr. Shahid Ansari told that he doesn’t want to comment before the judgment is seen. After his release Shaikh straight away went to the office of Jamiat Ulema of Maharastra. This organization provided legal assistance to Shaikh.
Shaikh’s relatives told that Shaikh was called to the police station on 29th September 2006 for interrogation but he was arrested. The information pertaining to his arrested was not communicated to his relatives. Shaikh’s relatives are planning to get him reinstated in the same school.
