Act of kindness turns cruelty, 8 arrested for offering meat to kites

How come a simple act of kindness of offering chicken meat to kites disturbed the communal harmony that too in Muslim area?

MORADABAD: 80 people were booked and 8 of them have been arrested by the Moradabad police for doing so (offering chicken meats to kites).

After the U.P. government came to power, the crackdown of slaughterhouses led to the closure of meat shops on which the birds were also dependent for survival.

According to The Hindu reports, Iqbal Husain, a meat trader and a local activist and his friends saw a bunch of kites hovering in the sky.

Therefore, they bought and offered chicken meat to the kites. For Husain, it was also a mark of protest not in favor of the “illogical way in which the Yogi Adityanath government had sealed slaughterhouses”.

But the local police termed the act of throwing meat in the sky a “violation of communal harmony” that hurt Hindus (in the neighborhood) and their religious feelings on the eve of Navratri.

Therefore, they arrested Hussain and sent to judicial custody on Thursday.

“The birds had gone without food since slaughterhouses of the city were shut down. So it was an act of compassion,” said Iqbal’s wife Zahida.

“Unlike what the police is saying, my husband offered chicken in a Muslim area where no one from other religious community lives. So there is no question of offending feelings.”
