City police under the supervision of DCP (South) V Satyanarayanhave arrested as many as 158 youth from old city on Tuesday as a part of ‘Operation Late Night Roamyos’ which is aimed at restraining youth from roaming the streets late night in the areas and creating nuisance.
“Among the 158 youth who have detained 38 were minors. The youngsters were given counseling in the presence of their parents on Wednesday,” the DCP said.
The operation gained support from various corners while some declared the action as uncalled for and violation of civil rights.
The police discontinued the nighttime raids due to Ramzan, but resumed from Tuesday night. The DCP said the South Zone police would not hesitate in lodging cases against their parents if minor children were caught committing serious crimes.
