Thane: Yesteryear starlet Mamta Kulkarni is back in the news as Thane Police has named her Kenya-based husband, Vicky Goswami to be the kingpin of the drug operation which was seized recently.
On Wednesday, 20 tonnes of ephedrine, a medicine abused to make party drug Crystal Meth was seized which according to police is a massive drug bust with value of around Rs 2000-crore.
After Vijaygiri Anadgiri Goswami aka Vicky Goswami was named the prime suspect, the investigators are now probing the actress’s role in the case.
Thane police commissioner Parambir Singh was quoted as saying to Times of India, “This is an international racket and Vicky Goswami is the main link to it. As for Mamta Kulkarni, we are probing her role.”
Goswami and Kulkarni were detained by the Kenya police around 18 months ago in a drug smuggling racket. “He was released on bail a year ago and has been absconding since then. During this period, he has continued to run his drug racket,” revealed another police officer to MidDay News.
Goswami is a central figure in the international drug ring who is wanted in three countries- Zambia, US and South Africa for running an international narcotics racket. International agencies, along with Thane police, have now launched a manhunt for Goswami.
A rising star in Bollywood in the 1990s, Mamta is currently believed to be in Kenya.
