Adhaar Nos of students not to published publicly

New Delhi: Universities Grant Commission (UGC) on April 28 addressed universities not to publish data’s of its Ph.D students publicly on their websites.

Jasphal Sandhu, UGC Secretary sent a letter addressed to all the Unviversities saying, “The Aadhaar (Targeted Delivery of Financial and Other Subsidies, Benefits and Services) Act, 2016 prohibits publishing and displaying the Aadhaar number publicly. Therefore, you are requested not to publish or display the Aadhaar”.

The data breach came into light when Aadhaar numbers of lakhs of pension beneficiaries were displayed on a state government website raising privacy concerns in Jharkand.

The UGC earlier had asked all the universities to furnish data of its Ph.D students on their websites on March 10.
The UGC has now given a deadline to furnish the Ph.D students details and their Adhaar Nos by the end of June, ignoring of which would cancel the students scholarship’s and fellowships sanctioned by the Government.
