Affordable asthma medicine to treat dementia

London, Oct. 29 : A new study has revealed that a cheap asthma drug could help fight dementia.

According to the research, just a six-week course of commonly available ‘Montelukast’ tablets lead to a marked improvement in mental function, Express.co.uk reports.

It works by reducing inflammation in a part of the brain associated with learning and memory.

Experts have said the exciting discovery gave hope to hundreds of thousands of people who would be struck down with dementia and believe the pill could hold the key to providing the first safe and durable treatment for old age.

The amazing discovery came after researchers at the Paracelsus Medical University found that the tablet boosted the memories of older rats.

The results were so surprising that they now hope to test its potency in dementia sufferers. (ANI)
