Agriculture on the decline due to faulty policy: Ravula

Condemning the Agriculture policy of the TRS government, TDP Telangana politburo member Ravula Chandrasekhar Reddy alleged that agriculture sowing has come down since last three years in the State.

“Though the State government claimed that there would be no drought in the State for the three to four years due to good rainfall and filling of irrigation tanks, but if we look into fact, agriculture has come down,” Ravula said while speaking to media at NTR trust bhavan here.

Some 49 lakh hectare lands were irrigated in 2013-14 which came down to 43 lakh hectare in 2014-15 with a loss of six lakh acres irrigation, the TDP leader claimed stating that irrigation further decreased to 41 lakh hectare in 2015-16. He said the State government should initiate remedies to increase agriculture.

Citing various reasons for dipping of irrigation, Ravula claimed that 2,650 farmers committed suicide in the State. He alleged that the TRS government has failed to provide subsidy to farmers even as the Union government released Rs 791 crore for this purpose. By adding Rs 120 crore share, the government should have helped farmers by providing subsidy, he said.

As the Assembly session is beginning from Friday, the government should initiate a debate on farmers pathetic situation instead of trying to suppress the voice of Opposition, he said. (NSS)
