AIMIM performance in MCD election 2017

NEW DELHI: Asaduddin Owaisi’s All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) is once again rejected by Muslim electorate.

The AIMIM party contested from 50 seats in Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) elections but failed to open an account from the Muslim-dominated areas. It was speculated that the party could play a crucial role in grabbing the votes from the area which had a sizeable Muslim population but faced humiliating defeat.

AIMIM’s spokesperson Irfanullah Khan told, “Earlier, we had decided to field candidates for all 272 seats, but when we conducted the survey, we came to know that we are in a strong position on 50 seats. After this, we decided to contest elections in these 50 seats firmly.”

BJP was on Wednesday set to retain the three municipal corporations in the national capital by winning a total 184 seats out of the 272. AAP managed to win 46 and Congress won 30.
