Akshay Kumar addresses ‘taboo’ around ‘Toilet:Ek Prem Katha’ title

Mumbai: Khiladi Kumar, who has wrapped up the shoot of his upcoming film ‘Toilet: Ek Prem Katha’, recently addressed the taboo around using a name like ‘toilet’ in his movie and said it is a real story and we should not run away from it.

Speaking at a press conference held to celebrate the success of ‘Jolly LLB 2’, Akshay Kumar said, “When I announced the name, many called asking me why would you name your film ‘toilet’? But for me, it’s a real story and I am talking about it. Why run away from it? It’s one of the biggest problem we have.”

“The issue of open defecation is one of the biggest challenges faced by the country and one must talk about it rather than brushing it under the carpet,” he said.

Talking about the underlined theme of the movie, the ‘Airlift’ star said “I got a great subject. Over 54% of the population in the country don’t have toilets at home and I thought if I make this kind of film with realism, comedy, entertainment, and good songs and present it to the people, they will understand the issue better.”

“Almost 1000 children die of diarrhea everyday in India. It is equivalent to two jumbo jets with children crashing everyday.. its alarming,” he added.

Dressed in a plain white shirt, the 49-year-old was accompanied by Fox Star Studios CEO Vijay Singh and director and writer Subhash Kapoor.

The court room drama ‘Jolly LLB 2’, which has already crossed the 100-crore mark in less than two weeks after it hit the screens, will now have a third installment to the film, as announced by Vijay Singh. However, no announcement regarding the starcast was made. (ANI)
