Amazon selling bathroom doormats with Islamic theme, Hindu gods

New Delhi: Popular e-commerce site Amazon faced a strong protest on Saturday after the word spread that the website selling doormats with Hindu gods.

Things took a turn for the worse, after people realized that the website also had Holy Quran and Islamic theme door mats for sale.

Hashtag #BoycottAmazon soon started trending on social media when people discovered the site was selling doormats with gods on them.

The retailer, Rock Bull, was not only selling doormats with Islamic theme but they also had Hindu gods and Jesus Christ doormat also.

Upset Hindus calling it highly inappropriate have urged world’s largest online retailer Amazon.com for the immediate withdrawal of doormats carrying the images of various Hindu deities-temples-saint and sold on its website.

This is not the first time that Amazon has faced such backlash.

Hindu cleric Rajan Zed in 2014 noted that the website was selling women’s innner wears carrying images of various Hindu Gods.

At the time, Zed said, “Hindus welcome the art world to immerse in Hinduism but [for] taking it seriously and respectfully and not for refashioning Hinduism concepts and symbols for personal agendas. Barbie-fication of Kali is simply improper, wrong and out of place.”

Rajan Zed also urged Amazon.com and its President Jeffrey P. Bezos to offer a formal apology, besides withdrawing about 67 objectionable doormats.
