Amir’s fiery spell draws applause from cricket legends

Mirpur : Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Amir, who produced a sensational performance in his side’s five-wicket loss to fierce rivals India in Asia Cup on Saturday, has received rave reviews from the cricketing fraternity.

Defending a paltry target of 84, Amir briefly raised his side’s hopes of claiming an upset win over India after reducing the opponents to 3-8 in the third over in Mirpur.

The 23-year-old removed both Indian openers Rohit Sharma (0) and Ajinkya Rahane (0) in his first over with a brilliant inswinger before dismissing Suresh Raina (1).

However, star batsman Virat Kohli remained calm under tense situation in his 49-run knock as he thwarted the opposition’s fightback to help his side cross the victory target.

“I actually congratulated him while he was bowling. I was so happy to play such an amazing spell. He is a world class bowler,” Man-of-the-Match Kohli said of Amir’s stunning bowling spell.

Meanwhile, former greats Wasim Akram and VVS Laxman also lavished praise on the left-armer, who returned to cricket earlier this year after serving a lengthy ban for spot-fixing.

“What a spell from Amir. What a game!!This is unreal cricket #IndvsPak,” former Pakistan pace spearhead Akram wrote on Twitter.

“Thoroughly enjoyed watching Mohd.Amir bowl tonight. It was a great sight to see him swing the ball at 145-150kph. Gr8 talent #AsiaCupT20,” legendary Indian batsman Laxman said. (ANI)
