Andhra Pradesh to find temporary accommodations for offices in Vijayawada

The Andhra Pradesh government today constituted a committee of senior officers to identify temporary accommodations in and around Vijayawada, where the state’s new capital is coming up, to house government offices.

This assumes significance amid reports that the government is keen on beginning the process of shifting some of the departments to Vijayawada from here soon.

“The committee shall look for ready-built accommodation available for occupation immediately or which can be immediately brought under occupation…committee shall meet immediately and submit report at the earliest,” a government order issued by Chief Secretary IYR Krishna Rao said.

As per the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, Hyderabad is the common capital of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana for ten years, after which Andhra Pradesh needs to shift to its new capital.

Meanwhile, at a meeting with ministers and heads of department, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu today directed officials to divide the services of the government into three categories: welfare (to monitor satisfaction levels among public), regulatory (including home and revenue) and development (to follow up development schemes in districts).

It was decided that the government would have an intra-communication system for easy communication between the heads of departments, ministers and the Chief Minister, a government release said.
