Bengaluru: Karnataka cadre IAS officer Anurag Tewari’s family requested Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Tuesday to initiate a probe into the mysterious death of their son. They expressed their dissatisfaction over the handling of the investigation by the Uttar Pradesh police.
Earlier Tiwari’s family members met Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and demanded a CBI probe because they suspect foul play his death. The chief minister has also assured them that justice will be done. But the case was moving at a snail’s pace.
The sources from Chief Minister’s office said. “The Chief Minister conveyed to the family that he has already written to the Yogi Adityanath seeking a CBI probe. Since the incident took place in Uttar Pradesh, he explained to the family that there was very little he could do.”
Sources added that the family has sought financial assistance from the CM. “The family claimed to have fallen on hard times and sought financial support from the government since Tewari was a Karnataka cadre officer. The CM has assured to review their plea and grant compensation on humanitarian grounds.”
The 35-year-old Anurag was found dead in Uttar Pradesh in Lucknow on May 17. A 2007 batch officer was a native of Uttar Pradesh’s Bahraich and has discharged duties as the Deputy Commissioner of Bidar in Karnataka.
The Special investigation team was formed by the Uttar Pradesh government to investigate the matter with transparency. The SIT concluded that the IAS officer was not on the verge of exposing a scam as alleged by BJP leaders in UP.
