AP CS reviews Polavaram project works


Polavaram, a multipurpose national Irrigation Project, is an ambitious project in the State of Andhra Pradesh which is likely to irrigate lakhs of Acres in Andhra Pradesh, Chief Secretary I.Y.R. Krishna Rao emphasized.

Today in a meeting held with the Irrigation Department Officials, the Chief Secretary reviewed the progress of the Polavaram Project, Somasila Telugu Ganga Project works. Polavaram Project Authority (PPA) has already got all the clearance and the Government of India also allocated budget for the same. PPA should make all the efforts with commitments to complete the Project on time, Chief Secretary said.

Officers of PPA briefed the status of the works at Polavaram Project. Out of seven packages under right main canal three packages are under processing; out of eight packages of left main canal four package works are under progress. The issues in respect of poor progress in the works were also discussed. The Chief Secretary has suggested the concerned that the project work needs to be pushed where there is no progress or poor progress in the works. He said that rehabilitation and resettlement of affected persons should be carried out as per the policies taken by the Government.

Officers informed that the revised and enhanced costs are to be approved by the Government of India and any modifications in the designs of the project are to be approved by Central Water Commission (CWC) and Central Assistance to be released under National Projects.

The Chief Secretary said the Government of Andhra Pradesh took the Project with serious, as the Project is a national pride.

Later, Chief Secretary reviewed the canal work progress of Telugu Ganga Project. Officers concerned has briefed about the status of land acquisition for the project and extension of Gottipadu – Kondapadu canal up to Rallapadu reservoir.

PPA Chief Executive Officer Dinesh Kumar, Prl. Secretary Irrigation Aditya N Das and others attended the meeting. (INN)
