Arjun Khanna’s Mother Mary inspired collection wraps IBFW day one

Panaji: Fashion designer Arjun Khanna closed the first day of the ongoing India Beach Fashion Week 2017 (IBFW) on Monday with his latest range inspired by Mother Mary.

The designer, who established his label in Mumbai in 1990, presented his menswear collection at The Goa Marriott Resort & Spa.

Coming back to the runway after a two year gap, Khanna showcased 50 garments consisting a wide variety of pants, patialas, coats, jackets, waistcoats, long jackets, palazzos, shorts and dhotis for his latest untitled line.

About his collection, Khanna told IANS: “The collection doesn’t have a name… the inspiration comes from Mother Mary…She is always a very strong force and energy behind me and I am a strong believer of her.”

He said that the colour palette is stark.

“From off-white into black – sharp looks but presented with a laidback tropical flair! Lots of detailing and fine tailoring which is my forte goes into the making of each piece. The clothes are cool and sexy,” he added.

Asked if he feels that Indian men are willing to experiment when it comes to fashion, he said: “Yes today they are… (but) it has taken a long time and cycle to reach this.”

The designer feels that the Indian men is very experimental and is conscious of of his dress and grooming.

“Therefore yes, he is willing to experiment,” he added.

The designer’s show saw many known faces like Rimi Sen, Lopamudra Raut, Suneet Varma, Wendell Rodricks, Preeti Jhangiani and her husband Parvin Dabas, in the front row at the event.

As Khanna closed the first day of the three-day fashion event, designer duo Shyamal & Bhumika will be bringing the curtains down on Tuesday and ace fashion designer Suneet Varma has been chosen for the grand finale event on Wednesday.
