Armed men loot Rs 20 lakh from ATM

Rupnagar: Five armed persons today looted Rs 20 lakh from personnel of a cash handling company when they were replenishing cash at an ATM of Punjab National Bank at the Civil Hospital here, police said.

The accused decamped with a suitcase containing Rs 20 lakh and also took cash in the ATM after overpowering the security guard and the company personnel, said SSP Varinderpal Singh.

“The only security guard was attacked from behind and over powered by the accused. He also fired a shot in air,” he said, adding they manage to escape in a car.

There were two cash handlers and the company’s driver in the ATM kiosk when the incident happened. They had come from Mohali to replenish cash at the ATM, he said.

A search operation has been launched to nab them, he said.
