Asaram witness murder case: Court orders Gujarat Police to produce shooter

New Delhi: A local court on Tuesday directed Gujarat police to produce before it Kartik Haldar, the alleged henchmen of Asaram, in connection with the murder of Akhil Gupta, the prime witness in the Surat rape case against the self-styled godman.

Acting Chief Judicial Magistdate Arun Kumar ordered the Gujarat police to produce Haldaf before the court on July 2, the prosecution said. Haldar was arrested from Raipur in Chhattisgarh by Anti- Terrorism Squad of Gujarat in March and is suspected to have shot dead three key witnesses in rape cases against Asaram.

Haldar had allegedly killed Asaram’s personal doctor Amrut Prajapati in June 2014, his assistant-cum-cook Akhil Gupta in January last year and another key witness, Kripal Singh, in July last year. During his interrogation, Haldar had told officials he had met the followers of Asaram in 2014, who instructed him to kill witnesses in a bid to weaken cases against the controversial preacher, ATS had said.
