The Telangana State Legislature Committee on Welfare of Minorities has decided to supervise the spending on minorities’ welfare besides conducting timely review of implementation of various schemes.
The Committee’s inaugural meeting was inaugurated on Friday by Assembly Speaker S. Madhusudan Chary. Council chairman Swamy Goud, Committee chairman Aamir Shakil, members Syed Altaf Hyder Razvi, Farooq Hussain, Mohammed Saleem and Stephen Ravindra, Agriculture Minister Pocharam Srinivas Reddy, Nizamabad MP K. Kavitha, Minorities Welfare Department Secretary Syed Omer Jaleel, Urdu Academy Director Prof. S.A. Shukoor and senior officials of Wakf Board, Haj Committee and other departments also attended the meeting.
Speaking to media persons after the meeting, Committee chairman Aamir Shakil said that the implementation of various schemes being implemented for minorities welfare were reviewed during the meeting. He said that the Committee discussed the spending of Rs. 1205 crore allocated for minorities’ welfare for the financial year 2016-17. He said so far Rs. 480 crore has already been spent. He said other schemes like distribution of loans, scholarships, fee reimbursement, functioning of Urdu Academy, etc., were also discussed. He said that the State Government was committed to its promise of providing 12% Muslim reservation.
He informed that the committee would conduct its next meeting in Bade Pahad Ki Dargah in Nizamabad. (INN)
