ATM attack case: Attacker held By Police In Andhra Pradesh’s Madanapalle

BENGALURU: A man who attacked a woman bank officer inside an unguarded ATM kiosk in Bangalore has been arrested after three years from Andhra Pradesh’s Madanapalle, in Chittoor district on Saturday.

The accused identified as Madhukar Reddy. More than 300 police officials and nearly 50 teams had worked on the case to trace him. The Bengaluru police had traced the mobile phone, snatched from the victim Jyothi Uday, in Andhra Pradesh. The investigators zeroed in on the possible location based on the information culled out from the mobile tower at an undisclosed location in Andhra Pradesh.

The City Police had eventually filed a ‘C’ report before the court as the accused was untraceable. But the DCP (Central) Sandeep Patil had said it does not mean there won’t be further investigations. “We will reopen the case if we get any crucial leads.” Meanwhile, the Bengaluru police and Chittoor police said they did not want to comment on the issue.

The attack which took place on November 19, 2013, was recorded in a CCTV camera which was installed inside the ATM kiosk. The footage which has gone viral shows that the assailant took out a country pistol and a machete from a shoulder bag and asked Jyothi a manager of Corporation bank to draw cash from the ATM.

When she tried to escape, he pushed her to a corner and hit her on the head with a machete. After checking her bag, he left the kiosk by again pulling down its shutter from outside abandoning her in a pool of blood. Uday had survived the attack and was discharged from the hospital a month later.
