Azad Day Celebrations begin at MANUU

Azad Day Celebrations 2015, organised by Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU), started on Wednesday with ‘Azad walk for Harmony,’ which was flagged off by Hyderabad Police Commissioner M Mahender Reddy from Shah Ali Banda.

Passing through Aliabad, Engine Bowli and Vatte Palli the Walk finally culminated at MANUU Model School, Falaknuma after covering a track of four kilometers. Class 6th to 12th students of the school along with their teachers and staff participated in the Walk. Many faculty and staff members of MANUU also took part.

Mahender Reddy appreciated the enthusiasm shown by the Model School students for the cause of harmony.

The students were carrying placards with messages of harmony, in both prose and poetry, in Urdu, Telugu, Hindi and English. Traffic and Police Department helped in managing the traffic along the course of the Walk.

Speaking at a programme in Model School at the conclusion of the Walk, in-charge Vice Chancellor Prof. K.R. Iqbal said that in view of the prevailing atmosphere in the country the need to promote harmony is greater than ever before. He also said that the Model School came into existence because of the personal efforts of Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi.

Prof. S. M. Rahmatullah, in charge Registrar MANUU, reminded the audience of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad’s famous quotation, “Today if an Angel were to descend from Heaven and declare from the top of Qutub Minar that India will get Swaraj within 24 hours, provided she relinquishes Hindu-Muslim unity, I will relinquish Swaraj rather than give up Hindu-Muslim unity.” He congratulated the paticipants for covering the challenging four kilometer long stretch of the Walk. He further exhorted them to bring knowledge and action into their lives to become successful.

Prof. Amina Kishore, Coordinator Azad Day Celebrations 2015, thanked the students for maintaining discipline during the Walk. Dr. Kafil Ahmad, Principal Model School, thanked the participants. Dr. Saneem fatima, coordinator programme, also addressed the gathering. Samiullah Hussaini, teacher Model School, conducted the programme. Prof. Mohd. Abdul Azeem; Vigilance Officer, M Chandra Mouly, and in charge Controller of Exams., Prof. Siddiqui Mohd. Mahmood were also present on the dais. (INN)
