Azam backs Aamir’s ‘Hindu’ wife’s worry over growing intolerance

Lucknow: Backing Bollywood actor Aamir Khan’s comment over growing intolerance, Uttar Pradesh Minority Welfare Minister Azam Khan on Tuesday said the insecurity of his ‘Hindu’ wife over the present atmosphere in the country represents the plight of the common people.

“The statement has not been made by Aamir Khan. His wife Kiran, who is a Hindu, has said this. When in a country of 1.25 billion, she is also feeling insecure and is a victim of intolerance, is feeling scared regarding her children’s future then you can imagine the condition of the nation,” Khan told ANI.

“You can imagine about the plight of the common people, who have been the victim of Godhra, 26/11 and other such incidents,” he added.

Speaking at the eighth edition of the Ramnath Goenka Excellence in Journalism Awards, Aamir had yesterday expressed alarm and despondency over the rise in cases displaying in tolerance in the last six to eight months.

He had said that a sense a sense of ‘insecurity’ and ‘fear’ had seeped deep within society.

“When I chat with Kiran at home, she says should we move out of India? That’s a disastrous and big statement for Kiran to make. She fears for her child. She fears about what the atmosphere around us will be. She feels scared to open the newspapers every day,” said Aamir. (ANI)
