Dhaka: The landslides in three districts of Bangladesh have killed 98 people in Rangamati, 32 in Chittagong and six in Bandarban as per Reaz Ahmad, the head of the department of disaster management.

Many people are still missing which might increase the death toll. “Rescue operations are being hampered by bad weather while authorities are still struggling to reach some remote areas,” Ahmed said.

A spokesperson for the control room of the Disaster Management and Relief Ministry in Dhaka told that four soldiers also got killed while on their rescue operation, reports abc.net.

“It is a great relief. Some areas in the district are still cut off but people are being moved through navy boats,” he told.

On the other side of the border, at least 11 people were killed in Mizoram and Assam. Nine bodies are found by the authorities in Mizoram and around seven people are still missing, the state’s urban development and poverty alleviation minister said.

In a statement issued by PM Modi’s office it said, the country was ready to support Bangladesh with search and rescue efforts if needed.

In Cyclone Mora recently, 7 people were killed. While in 2007, about 130 people got killed in a landslide in Chittagong in the south-east of Bangladesh.
