B’desh should take strict action against ‘so-called’ custodians of Islam: BJP

New Delhi: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Zafar Islam on Friday lashed out at the radical Islamic groups in Bangladesh over the killing of a Hindu priest and demanded Dhaka to take strict action against these ‘so-called’ custodians of Islam.

“It is a very shameful act that Hindus are being killed by so called Islamic forces in Bangladesh. These Islamic forces claim to be custodians of Islam, but what they preach, they do not practice. Killing in Islam is prohibited. If you are killing one person then you kill the whole mankind. The leadership in Bangladesh should take cognisance and take strict action against these so called custodians of Islam,” Islam told ANI.

A Hindu priest was hacked to death by three motorcycle-borne men in front of a temple in Bangladesh’s Jhinaidah district on Friday.

According to reports, 62-year-old Shaymananda Das was a priest at the Radhamadan Gopal Bigraha Math in Jhenaidah district.

He was walking on a highway adjacent to his temple when three men riding a motor-cycle attacked him.

Bangladesh has witnessed a surge in attacks on liberals and religious minorities in recent times. (ANI)
