It may be shocking to some but the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has in fact received donations worth Rs 2.5 crore from buffalo meat exporting firms, according to Times of India reports.

This has come to light with the contribution reports submitted to the Election Commission of India.

Under Section 29C of the Representation of People Act, 1951, it is compulsory for political parties to disclose the source of donations that are worth over Rs 20,000, in order to enjoy 100 % tax exemption and the saffron party listed the companies as donors in its contribution reports.

Three companies listed as Frigorifico Allana Ltd, Frigerio Converva Allana Ltd and Indagro Foods Ltd. donated Rs 2 crore to the Saffron party in 2013-14 and Rs 50 lakh in 2014-15.
