Bengal government to offer Roza food packets during Ramadan

Kolkata: West Bengal government plans to offer special ‘Roza’ food packets at a subsidised rate from ration shops across the state during the Muslim month of Ramadan, when Muslims are on a fast from dawn to fusk.

“Roza food packets will be offered from June 5-July 6 in all the ration shops across the state at a cheaper than market price. It will be given twice in the fasting month. The food packets will have sugar, flour, chick peas and others food items,” said state Food Supplies Minister Jyotipriyo Mullick.

He said this is in accordance with state government’s welfare schemes to help minorities in the state. “This is a first of its kind initiative in India,” he claimed.
