Bengal off-spinner Writtick Chatterjee achieves rare feat, claims 6/0

Bengal off-spinner Writtick Chatterjee today notched up a rare feat, claiming six wickets without conceding any run to hand Bhowanipore Club a 253-run win over Mohammedan Sporting in a Cricket Association of Bengal First Division two-day playoff match.

Chatterjee claimed wickets in his first, third and fifth balls of his first over to begin his wicket taking spree. In the second over, he once again foxed their opponents with two scalps in first and sixth balls and in his third over he wiped out the tail in the second ball to return with astonishing figures of 2.2-2-0-6.

His spectacular effort skittled out Mohammedan Sporting for 37 in 13.2 overs in reply to Bhowanipore Club’s 290 in 83.5 overs at the Deshbandhu Park ground.

The 23-year-old, who calls himself a batting all-rounder, hoped to continue his fine run to return to Bengal after his debut in the 2013-14 season when he played three matches.

“Everything went as per my plan and I could not hope for a better finish. I hope to hold on to this and win matches for Bengal.

Hopefully, one day I will able to play for the country like many aspiring cricketers,” Chatterjee, who idolises Sachin Tendulkar in batting and Englishman Graeme Swann in bowling, said.

Chatterjee, however, narrowly missed to equal former East Bengal medium pacer Shyam Sundar Ghosh’s feat of 7/0 in CAB First Division Knock Out match against Deaf and Dumb way back in 1963-64.

Brief Scores:
Bhowanipore Club 290; 83.5 overs beat Mohammedan Sporting 37; 13.2 overs (Writtick Chatterjee 6/0). Bhowanipore Club won by 253 runs.
