BIACH&RI organizes Breast Cancer Awareness Walk from KBR Park

As part of month-long programs in October on awareness against Breast Cancer, the Basavatarakam Indo-American Cancer Hospital & Research Institute (BIACH&RI) organized Breast Cancer Awareness Walk from KBR Park to Basavatarakam Indo-American Cancer Hospital premises this morning.

Welcoming the guests, Nandamuri Balakrishna said the hospital was established by his father N.T. Rama Rao with a view to provide best cancer treatment at affordable cost for the people. He said the hospital was started with 40 beds in 2000. In the last 14 years, the BIACH&RI has made significant progress by expanding the bed strength to 500 with latest Technologies, equipments and high quality faculty and has become one of the leading cancer treatment centers in the country. Explaining about preventive measures being undertaken by the hospital, Balakrishna said the Hospital conducted 856 camps and screened over 1,53,000 patients. He urged women to come forward to get screened and treated for breast cancer without any fear of losing organ or thinking that treatment would be costly as BIACH&RI has made every effort to provide the same with affordable cost.

Later, Balakrishna released pink balloons and pigeons to mark the PINK Ribbon Day and Peace.

Speaking on the occasion, Gopichand lauded the efforts of BIACH&RI in providing best cancer care at affordable prices. He also hailed Nandamuri Balakrishna in organising several awareness programs over fighting cancer. Comedian Haima appreciated the efforts of BIACH&RI in creating awareness about the dreaded disease. Cine star Anjali exhorted women to examine their breasts themselves regularly and consult doctors without any fear if they find any lump or abnormality in them. She also advised males to keep a special watch on their breasts as incidence of breast cancer among males was also increasing of late.

As part of breast cancer awareness month, the hospital is organizing free cancer screening camp from October 1 to 31 for public from 10 am to 2 pm at the hospital on Road No.14, Banjara Hills. During the screening, those suggested by doctors to undergo Breast Mammogram will be receiving 50% discount on Mammogram charges, he added. BIACH&RI CEO R P Singh also spoke.

The program was attended by BIACH&RI board members JSR Prasad, cine star Anjali, comedian Haima, Badminton coach Pullela Gopichand, Badminton player Sindhu, hospital CEO  R P Singh, Dr Ch Satyanarayana along with doctors, staff and students of Nursing College. (NSS)
