BJP demands CBI probe into AAP irregularities

New Delhi: The BJP on Friday demanded a CBI probe into the alleged AAP irregularities mentioned in the Shunglu Committee report that has accused the Delhi government of abuse of power and nepotism in making appointments.

Bharatiya Janata Party spokesperson Meenakshi Lekhi told media persons here that the report showed how the Aam Aadmi Party government splurged public money on foreign tours and illegal appointments of unqualified people and relatives to top positions.

“All illegal appointments should be set aside by executive directions of the Lieutenant Governor. In case, the government fails to do so, the court will take action. In propriety of corrupt practices, the Central Bureau of Investigation can take action,” Lekhi said.

Reacting to the AAP expressing doubt about timing of the report being made public ahead of the upcoming municipal elections here, Lekhi said: “We do not find anything doubtful. Rather their (AAP government) functioning is doubtful.”

A three-member committee headed by former Comptroller and Auditor General V.K. Shunglu reviewed 404 files of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s government to allege there were irregularities with various appointments and other decisions.
