The Telangana BJP Youth Morcha gave a call of for “Chalo Assembly” in protest against the TRS government’s move to provide 12 per cent reservation to Muslim minorities. The police also stopped BJP activists near Bhasheerbagh flyover and took them into preventive custody. The protestors raised “anti-government” slogans. The BJP was opposing religion-based reservation to Muslims.

BJP floor leader G Kishan Reddy, MLAs Ramachandra Reddy and NVSS Prabhakar and former MLA Nagam Janardhan Reddy were among those who were taken into custody by the police.

Earlier, talking to the media, State BJP chief Dr K Laxman and G Kishan Reddy, who squatted on the road, alleged that the TRS government was indulging in vote bank politics. Laxman said his party was organizing protests peacefully for the last one month against the State government’s move. He alleged that thousands of party workers across the State were taken into custody while they were on their way to the capital city to participate in the Chalo Assembly protest.  The BJP chief strongly condemned the suspension of party members from the Assembly. He said they will try to galvanize people’s support against the policies of the government.

Kishan Reddy said by introducing 12 per cent reservation to Muslims, the State government was doing great injustice to BCs. Religion-based reservation is unconstitutional , he said. The party demanded that the government immediately withdraw the move on religion based reservations. (NSS)
