BJP is making a mockery of parliamentary democracy in Uttarakhand: Nitish Kumar

Patna: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Sunday charged the ruling BJP of “making a mockery” of Parliamentary democracy by “promoting defections” in Uttarakhand. “If the BJP has to do such things (promoting defections), then it should have removed the provisions of the 10th schedule from the Constitution. It is a mockery of Parliamentary democracy,” Kumar said.

The 10th schedule of Constitution deals with provisions for disqualification on grounds of defection.

Kumar was talking to reporters on the sidelines of a ‘Holi milan’ function organised by the Bihar Chamber of Commerce and Industries.

It may be noted that Congress government in Uttarkhand led by Harish Rawat plunged into a crisis two days ago with nine party MLAs turning rebel and opposition BJP staking claim to form the government. Governor Krishna Kant Paul had yesterday asked Rawat to prove his majority on the floor of the state Assembly by March 28.
