Nagpur: Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Monday said that the BJP which earlier opposed and targeted Babasaheb Ambedkar was now praising him for “petty political gains”.
“Prime Minister (Narendra) Modi and his team want to kill the ideology of Babasaheb Ambedkar and everything he stood for,” Mrs Gandhi alleged while addressing a function organised in Nagpur to mark BR Ambedkar’s 125th birth anniversary.
The Congress chief claimed that had Dr Ambedkar lived, he would have fought against the BJP’s policies.
“Babasaheb Ambedkar fought against those forces who would discriminate against sections of our society,” she said, adding that the people who would sing praises for Dr Ambedkar were the same who cut budgets for the upliftment of OBCs.
She also criticised the BJP for political unrest in Uttarakhand and Arunachal Pradesh, and said they “undermined democracy” in the two states. “This is an attack on democracy,” she added.
