New Delhi: Body of a woman, aged around 30 years, was found inside a trunk dumped in a drain in northeast Delhi’s Usmanpur area today.
A case of murder has been registered and the police hasn’t yet ruled out the possibility of sexual assault, said a senior official.
“We are trying to ascertain the woman’s identity as early as possible. The cause of death and other related questions can be answered only after a medical examination,” said DCP (Northeast) Veenu Bansal.
He added that the information has been spread through wire and missing reports in connection with a woman are being searched across police stations in the city.
The incident came to light around 12 noon when locals tried to get the drain unclogged and an iron trunk became visible. The trunk was opened and the dead body was discovered, following which locals called up the police, said the official.
The murder is suspected to have taken place in the last 48 hours as the body was not too decomposed. Investigation is underway, police added.
