Bopanna-Mergea beat Murray-Peers at ATP Tour Finals

London: India’s Rohan Bopanna and Romanian Florin Mergea defeated the British-Australian pairing of Jamie Murray and John Peers in straight sets in their men’s doubles second match of the round robin encounter at the ATP World Tour Finals here on Tuesday.

The eighth-seeded pair needed just one hour and 15 minutes to beat the fourth-seeded Murray-Peers 6-3, 7-6 (5) in the Group Ashe/Smith at The O2 Arena here.

Bopanna-Mergea won 12 out of 15 first serve points in the opening set followed by a break point to take the set 6-4.

The second set saw a neck-and-neck battle between the two sides as two double faults in the set by Bopanna-Mergea helped the British-Australian get back into the set.

But it was four superb aces by the Indian-Romanian pair which saw them take the set to a tie-break and from there on to win it 7-5.
