Bengaluru :Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah today directed officials to book the management of the BPO company whose employee was allegedly gangraped here on Saturday night, if the firm is found negligent in providing security to the woman staffer.
Asserting that it is the responsibility of employers to ensure safety of female staffers, Siddaramaiah said the managements of IT, BT, BPO and private companies should take steps to provide security to women employees travelling at night and that labour department guidelines in this regard must be “strictly” followed.
The Chief Minister said this in a meeting with senior officials today where he was apprised of all information about the incident.
He also said the department would look into its compliance by the companies.
Stressing the need to maintain vigil on vehicular movement in the city during night, Siddaramaiah said police patrolling during late hours should be enhanced.
He also said awareness should be created on usage of women safety apps among general public and police personnel.
Two men were arrested yesterday for allegedly raping a 22-year-old call centre employee here at knife point in their moving van after they offered to ferry her home.
