BSF steps up vigil along Indo-Pak border in Rajasthan

Ahead of Independence Day anniversary celebrations, the Border Security Force has put in additional resources to step up vigil on the Indo-Pak border along the Rajasthan frontier.

“We have launched ‘Operation Alert’ along the border from Jaisalmer to Ganganagar falling under the Rajasthan Frontier of the BSF in the wake of the Independence Day anniversary. This operation would last till August 20,” said DIG (BSF) Ravi Gandhi.

Stating that this is a routine initiative taken specially during the Independence Day and Republic Day anniversaries, Gandhi said the chances of disturbing peace in the country are rife during these occasions.

Though, the border is already under enhanced surveillance after the recent terror attack in Gurudaspur in Punjab but the BSF is not willing to take any chances, he said.

“We have been keeping a close watch on the suspicious movements in the border areas with the help of the local police and have also ordered the border guards at the posts to be more alert,” Gandhi said.

Police have also enhanced surveillance in the areas keeping an eye on suspicious movements and elements. Inspector General of Police (Jodhpur Range) G L Sharma said the police has constantly been checking the hotels, guest houses and hotels in the areas in the vicinity of border and are holding regular nakabandi to check the movement of the vehicles.

On the other hand, the border areas are also afflicted with the penetration of the mobile network from across the border.

The network from Pakistani telecom companies can be traced as deep as eight to ten kilometres with the Indian territory, an official said adding, “We are taking required steps to ensure that this network is checked.
